Eagle Ridge's courses, which include the General, South, North, and East, have been part of Golf Digest's "Top 75 Resort Courses in the Country" and "Best New Upscale Public Courses", Golf Magazine's "World's Best Golf Resorts", and Conde Nast's "Top 50 Golf Resort Destinations in the USA". Four full service clubhouses, cart and equipment rental, driving range, putting green, pitching and bunker facility await you. Jo Daviess County also provides less acclaimed but equally beautiful courses for the less serious golfer.

Lake Galena is a private lake that is only available to homeowners and their guests. In-Fisherman Magazine ranked Lake Galena as number 7 under "All-Time MUSKIE GREATS", Top Tiger Muskie Waters in North America, and the lake is fast becoming one of the better largemouth bass fisheries in that part of Illinois. Species include: Muskie, Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Crappie, Catfish, Perch, Bluegill, and Sunfish. Pontoon boats, fishing boats, paddle boats, and canoes are available for rental. The marina has fishing licenses and a variety of bait and tackle.

When the snow starts to fall, board a sleigh and round the bend to the sound of sleighbells. Shenandoah Riding Center offers year-round trail rides, Eastern and Western lessons, and a variety of hayrides and sleigh rides for all age groups.

Chestnut Mountain, overlooking the Mississippi River, is located eight miles southeast of Galena and was rated in the top three ski resorts in the Midwest by Windy City Sports readers. It has 19 runs, terrain park, half-pipe, two quad and two triple chairlifts, snowmaking equipment, and night skiing. Ski and snowboard rental is available as well as lessons for all ages.

Fully 85% of Galena is listed as a National Historic Registry District. Galena is home to our nation's 18th president, Ulysses S. Grant. You can tour his home and the home of the U.S. Senator whose library Grant was in when he received word of his election to the Presidency. Our nation's second oldest Post Office is located in Galena, and you can walk in and have a letter post marked to commerorate your visit. Movie fans can see the famous Green Drapes from the movie Gone With the Wind. From the home of Grant and nine other Union Army generals, to the home of our nation's first large mineral rush, to it's 19th Century architecture, come discover the rich history of Galena and Jo Daviess County.

You're in for a treat if you have never seen a country sky at night. A close look on a clear night will reveal interesting celestial objects and even orbiting satellites.
